I am not sure if this is the right forum or not, but I need some help from my RX brothers. well, after a long marriage with my DLP, I have had enough. I am going to upgrade this weekend to a LCD or Plasma, but I know very little about either other than the basics. What does everyone around here like? Do plasmas still get burn ins / did they ever? What gives the better picture on HD channels and regular channels? What are the top brands for plasma and LCD? I am loking to get either a 46 or 50 inch if that makes any difference at all. Any information that you can provide would be a great help. Also, I don't really plan on going over $4,000. Thanks for the help guys. I figured that there is no better place to find out about TVs than from degenerate gamblers who watch sports on them all day.

i have a 50" plasma by LG and i am plenty happy with it. it is 720 tho and if you are budgeting for 4K then you will be looking for 1080p...

when going over 42" plasma is the way to go... LCD's are very very expensive when you go over 42" as production takes a major dive.

as far as burn in i am on my 3rd plasma and i have never had a run with it.

depends what kind of cash you got. I bought a 58 inch panasonic hdtv plasma 1080p res for 4,500 .It has the clearest picture i have ever seen. If your not willing to invest that type of dough look for something you can afford but try to get a 1080.

1080p is over rated unless you just have coin to burn. and the 720p TV's can all do 1080i which is how the channels are broadcast now.

1080p is for gamers and people who think bluray is worth the extra coin. typically 1080p is for people who get up-sold.

i would save the extra 2K you would spend and get a nice bose sound system.

so your saying there's not much difference between a 720 or 1080p? I'm also in the market to buy a flat screen with HDTV and see the 720's are alot cheaper. Let me know what you think about the two (720 vs. 1080). Thanks.

what is the quality like on non HD channels for plasmas and LCDs on 46 to 50 inch tvs?

Thats not going to be an issue starting in feb 09, less than 9 months from now.

All channels will be digital.

So I would not make a decision based on something that wont matter in 9 months

you get what you pay for. I have a blue ray player and the tv makes a huge difference. I have a 720 in my bedroom and their is a difference that an everyday owner would notice.

I bought a 61" DLP LED and am very happy. The key is the LED with DLP. I also have the 50" LG Plasma in the bedroom. Very happy with both.

i shopped for like 6 months and money was not really an issue... i could've gotten 1080 if i thought it was worth it but without going bluray and not being a gamer it was an easy decision to go 720 and to put the money into a sound system.

i also have it in a big room which makes a difference... if you are in a small room or you are going to go blu-ray then consider the 1080 but if not go 720 you will not be sorry.

Dude

Go 1080p no doubt. Will only cost you about an extra $500 and makes a noticeable difference. Plus, you will have technology that will still be good 5 years from now.

I'd say Sony is the best brand. recently we just got a Sony Bravia KDL-46W3000 46 inch 1080p LCD HDTV at a deal price of $1796

http://www.dealstudio.com/searchdeals.php?deal_id=104400&ru=290

The set is really heavy so two people are really needed to lift it unless someone is especially strong. Overall we LOVE this set and it is stunning, crisp and clear with HD, alright on digital and ok with analog but better than we thought it would be. I highly recommend this set...best from Sony yet!

1080p is virtually worthless. You cant get that on any broadcast.

If you are a DVD fanatic who owns a Blu-Ray player than 1080p is for you.

Honest to god, most important thing is the contrast ratio. Just bought a Toshiba 32 with a 15000:1 contrast ratio and everytime my dad visits he says the same thing every time "I cant get over the level of blacks"

Don't settle for something with a lame 1200:1 contrast ratio you saw in a flyer.

Get something with an obnoxious contrast ratio, and see television through different eyes.

its easy, if you have a room that has a lot of natural light and the tv will be where it will reflect light get a LCD, if it is in a darker room, not much reflection... plasma is definately the way to go

i have a 42" panasonic plasma, i love it
